Noobing, What's in a Name?

Noobing, L.L.C. was created in August 2008, and the Overland Park, Kansas based marketing and advertising company is already carving a foothold for itself in the internet marketing world.

Part of the company’s strategy is to generate interest over its very unusual name. Its creators have taken a page from the books of successful businesses such as Google, Yahoo, and Twitter, and from oddly named music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Wakarusa—in its bid for bucks.

“We’re not just a funny name,” stated Noobing President, Brett Blackman.

“Our marketing group has created a new social advertising network that will make internet advertising more effective. We think the bizarre name will stick with people and create its own marketing buzz.”

The company utilizes Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to generate traffic for its advertisers, which helps those businesses in the network to increase their visibility and viability, while also giving them live feedback on what the community thinks of their website. Website owner-advertisers are also given an option to help lower their ad costs by earning Site Reviewer Payments as they support others in the network.

“We want to help small to mid-sized businesses get on the map,” explained Mr. Blackman. “We give our network advertisers several ways to optimize their website’s ranking. The goal is to get them the highest search engine ranking possible to draw traffic and boost sales. That’s what SEO is all about.”

“I think the name is just downright weird,” laughed Flo Hannerhan, a passerby walking through Old Westport of Kansas City. “But I understand why they did it. I’ll look them up just to see what they do.” University of Missouri in Kansas City student, Mark Holmes, said he would check out a business just because of a unique name. “But ‘Noobing,’ he said, “is bordering on crazy.”

The name "Noobing" comes from the acronym for New Order of Business (NOOB). The "ing" ending was added to "energize" the company's name. "It's both a noun and a verb," said a smiling Mr. Blackman.

Noobing’s logo was envisioned to promote the prospect of new, potentially far reaching growth—a baby green, seed-like computer mouse sprouts a snaking vine which is topped with a spade-shaped shoot. The germination is wrapping itself around the word “Noobing.” Mr. Blackman noted, “Our logo is meant to visually link Noobing with a new prosperity—and the technology that makes it all possible.”

The company’s website, Noobing.com, is ranked as one of the most strangely named websites for the month of September. It serves advertisers in the United States and internationally.
